As far as modern Asian popular cuisine, Chinese food ranks in the top three.  Whether it is out at a restaurant or at home, Chinese food offers a very wide palette. Here are the three key Chinese food staples, you can use at home.  As a diet choice its a very healthy food option, and tastes amazing.

  • Chinese five-spice is a mix of star anise, cinnamon, cloves, fennel and Szechuan pepper. you can find it in the spice aisle at your local supermarket
  • Soy sauce is made from fermented soybeans. Light soy sauce is saltier than dark. You will find it in the Asian aisle at your local supermarket.
  • Rice is the made ingredient for Shaoxing wine.  You can find it in the Asian Aisle or Asian grocery stores.  If unavailable use dry cherry.

The three Chinese food staples are simple and easy to include in your pantry at home.  With so many different Chinese recipes that you can make.  You can use these three ingredients as a base for a lot of different recipes.
